What is Salvation?

Salvation is deliverance from danger or suffering. In Biblical terms "salvation" concerns eternal, spiritual deliverance. After the fall in the Garden of Eden, God made a way for us to escape the penalty for sin.

In order to get to heaven, Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3:3 that
unless a man is born again (saved) he can not see the kingdom
of heaven.

The question becomes what do we need "saved" from?

Romans 5:8 and 9 "But God commendeth His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more than being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him."

1 Thessalonians 5:9 and 10 "For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ. Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him."

Our sin had separated us from God as Romans 6:23 tells us
" For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal
life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

It was through Christ's death and resurrection that we can be saved. Romans 5:10 "For is when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life."

We are saved by faith

First we hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ - Ephesians 1:13 "In whom ye also trusted after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, in whom also after that ye believed ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise."

Second we must believe - we must fully trust the Lord Jesus - Romans 1:16 "For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth to the Jew first and also to the Greek."

Third, you must repent! You must change the way you think about sin. Acts 3:19 "Repent ye therefore and be converted that your sins maybe blotted out, when the times o refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord."

Fourth, you must call on the name of the Lord - Romans 10:, 9,10,13 "that if thou shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart of man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

To Summarize

Salvation is the deliverance by God's grace from eternal punishment. Salvation can be gained only thru Jesus alone.
